Volcom Tea Sessions

Another great Tuesday night at the Volcom shop.

Another great Tuesday night at the Volcom shop.

Samovar Ambassadors Nick Bastone and Miles Hischier are 4th year undergraduates at UC Berkeley with a passion for tea and an eagerness to spread the newly evolving tea culture to a younger crowd.  Drinking tea isn’t cute anymore. It’s becoming something cool.  Something you can pour when hanging out with buddies, something you can do at parties.  That’s right, no more tea parties.  Kids these days are partying with tea.

Every Tuesday Night at the Volcom Surf Shop on Telegraph Ave. (just a half block away from the Berkeley campus) Nick and Miles call up their friends, tell them to bring their friends, and a tea “session” emerges on the second floor loft overlooking the store.  This past week, Samovar supplied the three teas featured at the Volcom Sessions.  It was oolong week, so we hooked them up with some of our favorites: Bao ZhongMonkey Picked Iron Goddess of Mercy, and Wuyi Dark Roast.

Samovar was excited to sponsor this event, and we look forward to many more Volcom Tea Sessions in the future! Enter Nick and Miles:

This week we went all Oolong. Going Bao Zhong, roasted Tie Guan Yin, Da Hong Pao.

All three came complementary from Jesse Jacobs, owner of Samovar Tea Lounge. And all three were quite good.

It was cool to capture such a broad spectrum of oolongs in just three teas.

We started light with the Bao Zhong and ended dark with the Wuyi.

I like to explain oolongs as somewhere in between green and black teas. That grey area, with seemingly endless variety.

Oolongs are where the real artistry takes place.
